Fatherhood

The Watergate Bay tapes

Three days a week, I did the school run. We climbed in to the car and the trip lasted 45 minutes. It was two miles of solid traffic, limping towards the river Thames for the first mile, slightly faster once we’d crossed Albert Bridge. The journey was dull but the company was good, and I used the time together with my 8 and 6 year old to start our day. Some of these days I recorded on my digital dictaphone. Years later, my sons’ high pitched voices are a comic reminder of those halcyon days.
